The Civet Cat and the Sea Cucumber

By: Bernardus Loblobly

That day it was calm as if someone had poured oil on the ocean, there was not any wind at all. And the low tide seemed like someone threw it out to sea so that the shore was totally dry.

The Civet Cat climbed to the top of a tree to stay there and he looked out to see and said, “Wow, this low tide is huge eh?” Then he sighed. He sighed and said, “Oh my, this calm is nice, but who can help me go sailing to and fro?”

Then the Sea Cucumber waited and said, “Pyui! A jungle person like this one knows how to go sailing to and fro eh?”

Then when the Civet Cat heard that, he waited and said, “Hey! Don’t tempt me to go and slap you in the face right there!”

Then the Sea Cucumber waited and said, “Come already; I’m going to run away eh? No I won’t run instead I’ll just wait for you.”

The Civet Cat remained silent, and he looked out to see where the calm was amazingly good, so he sighed again and said, “Oh my, this calm is really nice, but who can help me go sailing to and fro?”

When the Sea Cucumber heard this again he said, “Pyui! Jungle people like these know how to go sailing to and fro eh?”

The Civet Cat said, “Hey! Don’t tempt me to just slap your face right there!”

When the Sea Cucumber heard this he said to the Civet Cat, “Well come on then. I’m going to run, because I have arms and legs like you? I’ll just be laying in my place.”

The Civet Cat was silent again, he was silent and he sighed again, he sighed again and waited and said, “Oh my, wow this calm is really nice, but who can help me go sailing to and fro?”

When the Sea Cucumber heard this again he said, “Pyui! Bad people like these jungle people know how to go sailing to and fro eh?”

When the Civet Cat heard the Sea Cucumber speak like that he waited and said, “Yes, and you wait for me to go and slap your face!”

Then the Sea Cucumber said, “Come already. Just come already. I going to run eh?”

The Civet Cat went. He climbed down from the top of that tree to go up to that Sea Cucumber, then that Civet Cat used his front legs to kick him. When he kicked the Sea Cucumber, the Sea Cucumber’s tentacles tied up one of the Civet Cat’s legs. Then the Civet Cat said, “Let me go or else I will slap your face now, but I’ll use my leg on the other side to slap your face so you will die!”

So the Sea Cucumber waited and said, “Slap me then; I’ll run huh? I’m staying in my place and just keeping quite.”

Then when the Civet Cat used his front leg on the other side to kick the Sea Cucumber again, tentacles tied it up too. They tied him up again so he said, “Hey, you'd better be careful to quickly let me go, if not I will just keep kicking you right here. Earlier I slapped your face but you didn’t want to let me go, instead you held me fast. So I will kick your face!”

“Kick my face already; I’ll run huh?”

Then the Civet Cat again used another leg to kick him. When he kicked him, his other leg got tied up too. So with his other leg tied also, then the Civet Cat said, “Let me go now, let me go now or else I will kick you again right now!”

“Well kick me then. When you beat me earlier I ran huh? Instead I beat you, so I won’t run, so you beat on me and I’ll just be quite.”

So he used his other leg to kick him, then he tied up all his legs, both his front and back, the Sea Cucumber’s tentacles tied up them all, such that the Civet Cat was not able to move at all.

When he couldn’t move at all, the Sea Cucumber called to the tide to come already, “Oooooo tiiiiide you come on…”

Then the Civet Cat said, “Hey, why are you calling for the tide to come in?”

“Ha! Well low tide was from earlier until now so I called for the tide to come in to its place already.”

The Civet Cat said, “No! Release me instead so I can go.”

Then the Sea Cucumber called to the tide again, “Oooooo tiiiiide you come on…”

The tide began to come in. High tide came and came on, high tide came and came on more until it reached them, then he said, “Release me so I can go right away already; the high tide has reach here already.”

Then the Sea Cucumber said, “Oooooo tiiiiide you come on…”

That high tide came and completely covered that Civet Cat and the Sea Cucumber below there, so the Sea Cucumber tied up the Civet Cat completely there until the big tide reached to its height. The Civet Cat just died in that place, then the Sea Cucumber peeled off his tentacles. The Civet Cat was dead and just floated there, and the Sea Cucumber just remained in his place contented.

That’s the end.
